Canada claims easy win against Jamaica

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 27, 2010 – As expected Canada had a walk in the park during the opening day of the NORCECA Girls’ Youth Championship by scoring an easy 25-10, 25-9, 25-15 victory against Jamaica.

The strong serves plus their better overall game were the keys of the victory for the North Americans in the match of Pool C.

Megan Festival led Canada with 13 points and Carolyn O’Dwyer and Rachael Lynch added 9 and 6 points respectively.

“We were a little nervous at the beginning but then we settled down and felt comfortable,” said Megan Festival, the captain of Canada. “That was the key for us.”

Coach Jesse Knight added: “I am happy that all my players contributed. We felt the pressure of the first match and also of getting used to the rules of FIVB and NORCECA.”

Captain Patrice McLean of Jamaica said: “We didn’t play very well, but we played well. I am satisfied about what we did and we will improve in our next matches.”

Coach O’Neill Ebanks added: “We can’t ask for more. This is a learning and valuable tool for us. We will improve. It can’t get worse.”
