Dominican
Republic completes the four finalists
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 30, 2010 –
Dominican Republic completed the four finalists
of NORCECA Girls’ Youth Continental Championship
following a 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-13) victory
over Guatemala on Friday. In the semi final
phase, they will play against first ranked team
Mexico.
The taller Dominicans dominated in blocks (12-0)
and in serving aces (7-2). Elizabeth Martinez
was the best of the winning side with 15 points,
including four blocks while Pamela Soriano and
Nairobi Agramonte charted 14 and 10 points
respectively.
“It was a good match but our size and execution
of the fundaments of the game was the
difference,” said Agramonte, the captain of
Dominican Republic. “Despite their great defense
we were able to get our points. Our team has
been improving with each match and we are ready
for the upcoming matches.”
“Our attacking power was the big difference,”
said Giovanni Sibilia, the Dominican coach. “Our
team doesn’t have the experience but has a lot
of talent and I think we are capable of battling
until the end.”
Julio Dominguez, the Guatemalan coach said: “We
have won a lot of experience playing against
teams of this caliber. We have reached a certain
point and to go farther we need more support
from all the institutions.
