GUADALAJARA, Mexico, April 5, 2010 – Nine teams
will take part in the seventh edition of NORCECA
Boys’ Youth Continental Tournament starts on
Tuesday in Guadalajara, the Capital of the State
of Jalisco in Mexico.
The sides will compete for a ticket to this
year’s inaugural Youth Olympic Games in
Singapore and two spots in the 2011 FIVB Boys’
Youth World Championship.
Grouped in Pool A are defending champions USA,
Cuba and Canada. Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic
and Curacao will compete in Pool B while hosts
Mexico, Guatemala and Costa Rica will play in
Pool C.
The two best ranked pool winners, based on
points-ratio, will advance to the semi final
round, and the third one will join the three
teams placed in second position for the
quarterfinals eliminatory.
In the history of the competition, Puerto Rico
are the only multiple winners with two gold
medals. Dominican Republic, Mexico, Cuba and USA
each have won one edition.
The preliminary inspection, refereeing clinic,
press conference and general technical meeting
will take place on Monday.
The opening day action features the matches of
Costa Rica vs. Guatemala, Puerto Rico vs.
Curacao and USA vs. Canada.
