Canada sends Curacao to cellar place

GUADALAJARA, Mexico, April 9, 2010 – Curacao ended in ninth place after today’s defeat by Canada in consecutive sets with a score of 25-15, 25-18, 25-30 in the fourth day of the NORCECA Continental Boys’ Youth Tournament.

The Canadian team was always ahead in the score though the islanders, who definitely didn’t have anything to lose and a lot to win in an event of this nature, did everything they could to put pressure on the northern team.

William Bremmer was the game’s best scorer with 8 points and on the rival’s side, Quinten Anthony contributed seven points in a match that didn’t yield any surprises but just the possibility for Canada to improve the 8th place.

Donald Saxton, Canadian Technical Director, commented “these are good opportunities to play and gain international experience.  I’m pleased today because my kids played well in the back defense but not so great at the net.”

William Bremmer, Canadian Team Captain, said he was proud of his teammates “because we won and I also congratulate Curacao as they put up some good resistance.”
