Italy defeated
Dominican Republic 3-0
BYDGOSZCZ, Poland, August 17,
2006.- Italy defeated Dominican
Republic in straight sets
(25-17, 25-17, 25-18) for its
second triumph without losses at
the 2006 FIVB World Grand Prix.
The blocking of the Italians
(13-5) was the key ingredient
for the easy victory over the
Dominicans who are now 1-1 after
two outings.
Elisa Togut led the Italian
offense with 16 points followed
by Valentina Fiorin with 15 and
Sara Anzanello with 10. Annerys
Vargas was the only Dominican in
double figures with 11 tallies.
The effective serves and high
blocking carried Italy to the
victory in the first set. The
Dominicans led 8-7 at the first
pause but then Captain Simone
Rinieri led an Italian 7-1 rally
to take a definitive advantage
and Valentina Fiorin contributed
with solid spikes the rest of
the way.
Once again the consistency of
the Italian blocking and its
quick offense caused many
problems to the Dominicans in
the one-sided second set
dominated by Italy from start to
finish. The tall Sara Anzanello
was outstanding in the game at
the net with her impressive
reach.
The third set was not different
than the two previous and the
same mix carried Italy to its
second victory. |
