Costa Rica once again won the
Women’s Central American Cup
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, August 19,
2006.-
Costa Rica defeated Guatemala
3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-16) and
won the Women’s Central American
Crown for eight consecutive year
and eleventh time in the
fourteen years of the event
history.
The Costa Ricans finished the
competition with a 5-0 record
and won the 15 sets they played
along the way. Guatemala ended
with 4-1 mark good for the
silver medal and the bronze went
to Nicaragua (3-2).
Verania Willis, the Captain of
Costa Rica, was the Most
Valuable Player and the best
spiker and Nicaraguan Heidy
Trana was the best scorer.
Costa Rican Karen Cope earned
the honors as best blocker,
Nicaraguan Mireyines Tellez was
the best setter and Honduran
Claudia Elvir picked up the
medal as best server. Guatemalan
Walda Maldonado was awarded as
best reveiver, digger and libero
of the event.
In the other two matches of the
last day, Nicaragua beat Panama
3-0 (25-10, 25-17 y 25-23) and
Honduras defeated El Salvador
3-0 (25-14, 25-11 y 25-22).
The final ranking was as
follows:
Costa Rica (5-0), Guatemala
(4-1), Nicaragua (3-2). Panama
(1-4), Honduras (1-4), El
