USA and Canada advanced to semi
finals at NORCECA Boys’ U-19
BAYAGUANA, Dominican Republic,
August 25, 2006.- USA and Canada
joined the semi finals of the
NORCECA Boys’ U-19 Continental
Tournament scoring easy 3-0
victories on Friday over Mexico
and Dominican Republic.
The Americans defeated Mexico
25-16, 25-9, 25-13 advancing to
a contest against Cuba, while
the Canadians triumphed over
host Dominicans 25-21, 25-20,
25-19 and now will meet Puerto
Rico.
USA team established a well
balanced offense and the
consistent attack demolished
their Mexican rivals.
Carson Clark and Ian Connolly
each had 8 points for USA and
Mexican Carlos Ruvalcaba also
had 8.
The defense on the floor carried
out the Canadians to the victory
as also a more fluid attack than
that of their opponents, who had
a 6-0 advantage starting the
second set but only to see it to
extinguish very rapidly.
Gordon Ferrin was the best
Canadian with 16 points, Stefan
Savoien had 10 and Robert
Bennett cooperated with 8
points. Wascar Garcia led the
Dominican Republic with 16
points and Hayden Reynoso added
12.
On Saturday, Mexico and
Dominican Republic will play for
the fifth position and then Cuba
and USA feature the first semi
final with Canada and Puerto
Rico playing in the nightcap. |
