Caribbean Junior Volleyball Championship at
Baie-Mahault in Guadeloupe started with the
defending champions Trinidad and Tobago
defeating Bahamas 25-19, 25-21, 25-12. The
Trinidadians started the game with a new vigour
from the first two games they played.
Merisha Herbert was the best player of Trinidad
& Tobago with 17 points. Also making the
difference for TTO were Captain Ariel Folkes and
Samantha Prescott each with four service aces.
Jannis Wilson had 9 points for Bahamas.
TTO Coach Essil Seecharan complimented his team
for an improved performance at the press
conference and indicated that “after the first
set, we got more confidence, energy and
motivation. They stayed very concentrated and
won the three sets.”
Captain Folkes said: “I'm very satisfied with
our play. We felt more confidence, we had a good
communication supporting and watching one
another and that had a good effect.”
Jason Saunders, the coach of Bahamas, was not a
happy man indicating that “we had a plan but it
was not executed or not enough. That was our
problem. Trinidad played a good game and did not
allow us space for errors”.
Bahamas Captain Avoni Seymour said: “We had a
problem of communication, we did not talk
enough. We were less concentrated.”
In the other female game of the day hosts
Guadeloupe continued winning their games when
they came up against Barbados. Barbados ended
the tournament last night with a 0-4 record and
therefore will be ranked fifth in the tournament
after suffering a 3-0 defeat from the hosts in a
game that lasted only 68 minutes. The scores in
the game were 25-12, 25-18, 25-15. This means
that Guadeloupe, Bahamas, Martinique and
Trinidad and Tobago will all go to the semi
finals. The results of the final pool games
will determine the game match-up.
