Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guyana
together with Trinidad and Tobago qualified to
the Semi Finals in the Caribbean Junior
Volleyball Championship.
Guadeloupe who ranked third in Group A was up
against second ranked team of Group B Barbados
in the first quarterfinals game. The host team
prevailed in five sets by score of 25-18, 24-26,
25-20, 22-25, 15-10.
Oliver Ismael, Coach of Guadeloupe: “We know we
have had difficult games in order to achieve our
goal and this was one such game. Now that we won
this quarter final game the next step is to win
the semi-finals and play the gold medal match”.
In the other quarterfinals game, Trinidad and
Tobago defeated Bahamas 25-16, 25-17, 24-26,
25-21. TTO Ryan Stewart and Simon Blake had 14
and 12 spikes respectively but it was Ryan who
led the winners with 20 points. For Bahamas
Chauncey Cooper scored 13 points including 12
attacks and
Gideon Dickson, theTTO Coach said: “We lost the
third set because they were mentally down but
playing against Bahamas was not as easy as the
scores suggest. We must represent the English
Speaking Caribbean in the tournament now and
tomorrow will be another day in the
semi-finals.”
