Defending champion Trinidad and Tobago defeated
Bahamas in straight sets tonight to go into the
women’s gold medal match on Saturday afternoon
in the Seventh Caribbean Junior Volleyball
Championship at Baie-Mahault in Guadeloupe.
The Trinidadians had no difficulty with Bahamas
taking the victory in straight sets 25-23,
25-14, 25-18, repeating the similar performance
of the preliminary match-up.
Malika Charles and Marisha Herbert had 14 and 13
points respectively and Arielle Folks had 8
service aces. For Bahamas, Jannis Wilson was
only able to score 8 points.
In the other semi-final match, home team
Guadeloupe had a much easier game against French
sister island team Martinique winning in
straight sets 25-16, 25-9, 25-15 in a game
which lasted 66 minutes. Guadeloupe’s Ingrid
Watson had 15 points including 9 spikes.
Earlier in the day Trinidad and Tobago and host
Guadeloupe did battle for men’s third place.
Both teams had suffered 3-2 defeats in the
semi-finals and were hoping to come away with
the bronze medal. Trinidad and Tobago came up
victors 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 27-25.
In the first match of the day, Bahamas edged out
Barbados 30-28, 25-20, 18-25, 25-21 for fifth
position.
