HAVANA, Cuba,
August 14, 2009 – Hosts Cuba trounced Suriname
25-13, 25-10, 25-12 in the second match of the
opening day in the Norceca-H third round
tournament of the 2010 FIVB Men’s World
Championship.
The Cuban
team proved to be too strong for Suriname in
every phase of the lopsided match. The home side
outscored the visitors 9-0 and 6-0 in blocks and
service aces.
Henry Bell
led Cuba with 12 points, including two blocks,
and Joandry Leal had one block and three aces
among his 10 points. Michael Sanchez added 8
points as all the Cuban players saw action in
the contest with the exception of young
sensation Wilfredo Leon.
Gino Robert
Naarden was the best scorer for Suriname with 11
points, all via attacks.
“The
difference in the match doesn’t allow analyze it
that much,” said Orlando Samuels, the Cuban
coach. “But all the players took part. Our
opponents need to play with teams like Cuba to
develop more.”
