HAVANA, Cuba,
August 15, 2009 – Canada did a quick job against
Suriname claiming its second victory in the
Norceca-H third round tournament of the 2010
FIVB Men’s World Championship. The score was
25-13, 25-17, 25-13.
Three
Canadians scored in double digits led by Dallas
Soonias with 12 points. Louis-Pierre Mainville
and Alexandre Gaumont added 11 and 10
respectively. Suriname’s Robert Naarden topped
all the scorers with 14 points.
Canada had
margins of 9-1 and 7-1 in blocks and service
categories while converting 37 of 72 spikes’
attempts.
“It has been
very good winning these two matches before
facing Cuba tomorrow,” said Davidiux Brock, the
Captain of Canada.
“Our rivals
never let it down and that’s a positive quality
for a team willing to grow. Now we are going to
concentrate in our match against Cuba, our
toughest challenge,” said Glenn Hoag, the
Canadian coach.
“A great
first experience for us,” said Jerry Slijngard,
the coach of Suriname.
