HAVANA, Cuba, August 15, 2009 – Cuba demolished
Bahamas 25-14, 25-9, 25-13 improving its
Norceca-H tournament record to 2-0 and setting
up a Sunday’s decisive match against Canada for
the only ticket available to the Final Round of
the 2010 FIVB Men’s World Championship.
The loser of Sunday’s contest still will remain
in contention for a berth in Italy next year by
qualifying to a Play-off Round in Guadalajara,
Mexico at the end of the month against the
runners-up of the three Norceca’s third round
tournaments and the best third place of those
events.
The Cubans literally blocked the Bahamas’
actions by establishing a 15-3 gap in the
blocking category led by Captain Roberlandy
Simon who compiled six of his 12 points
defending at the net.
Michael Sanchez and Rolando Cepeda each
contributed 7 points to the winning effort while
notching 4 and 3 ace services respectively.
