Cuba crushes Bahamas in Norceca-H

HAVANA, Cuba, August 15, 2009 – Cuba demolished Bahamas 25-14, 25-9, 25-13 improving its Norceca-H tournament record to 2-0 and setting up a Sunday’s decisive match against Canada for the only ticket available to the Final Round of the 2010 FIVB Men’s World Championship.

The loser of Sunday’s contest still will remain in contention for a berth in Italy next year by qualifying to a Play-off Round in Guadalajara, Mexico at the end of the month against the runners-up of the three Norceca’s third round tournaments and the best third place of those events.

The Cubans literally blocked the Bahamas’ actions by establishing a 15-3 gap in the blocking category led by Captain Roberlandy Simon who compiled six of his 12 points defending at the net.

Michael Sanchez and Rolando Cepeda each contributed 7 points to the winning effort while notching 4 and 3 ace services respectively.
