BANGKOK, Thailand, August 14, 2009 – USA showed
no mercy to Puerto Rico beating its Norceca
rival in straight sets 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 on
Saturday in their second match of the 2009 FIVB
World Grand Prix. The Americans had defeated the
Puerto Ricans 3-2 during the first week in Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil.
Nancy Metcalf led USA with 12 points and Jordan
Larson and Foluke Akinradewo each notched 11
tallies. Puerto Rican Aurea Cruz led her side
with 10 points.
Meanwhile in Hong Kong, Netherlands defeated
Dominican Republic in straight sets but not
without a battle to keep its unbeaten record in
the FIVB World Grand Prix. They prevailed by
score of 25-14, 33-31, 30-28 on Saturday
afternoon.
Debby Stam led five Dutch girls with double
digits in scoring with 17 points. She was joined
by Chaine Staelens (13), Manon Flier (12),
Ingrid Visser (11) and Carolina Wensink (10).
Bethania de la Cruz paced Dominican Republic
with 14, followed by Lisvel Eve with 11 and
Altagracia Mambru and Milagros Cabral with 10
and 9 respectively.
