PRESS RELEASE 28/08/2009

Coaches between optimistic and satisfied in Tijuana

Tijuana, Mexico, August 27, 2009 – The coaches of the four nacional teams represented in the last NORCECA Playoff Round towards the FIVB 2010 Women’s World Championship shared their opinions and ideas prior to the start of the competition on Friday.

Arnd Ludwig of Canada, Braulio Godinez of Costa Rica, Francisco Jiménez Espitia of Mexico and Francisco “Panchi” Cruz of Trinidad y Tobago, all pronounced their teams ready to fight for the two last tickets awarded by the FIVB to the teams of the North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA).

Here are some excerpts of the statements during their meeting with the media:

Arnd Ludwig (CAN): “We have a tough loss with the injury of setter Larissa Cundy who suffered a setback while working out here. It is big blow but we have worked with two other young players and if they can play the same like in practice, I think they will do a good job. It is going to be a tough competition.”

Braulio Godinez (CRC): “The expectations are very high. We have had the preparation of the Pan American Cup in Miami where we faced Mexico, a team with some changes in personnel and staff, also Trinidad & Tobago which has an extra in its preparation and Canada, a strong team we lost against.”

Francisco Jiménez Espitia (MEX): “There is a great expectation because is the first time I coach the national team even though I have worked as assistant. It is a great opportunity for me and a great motivation and we have prepared very well to look for the best result possible for Mexico.”

Francisco Cruz (TRI): “To reach the last eliminatory round is a great achievement for a young team like us and a program that doesn’t have much time. In three years that I have been with the girls I can say that I feel very proud to be here.”

The action kicks off on Friday at 17:00 (PDT) at Centro de Alto Rendimiento (CAR) with the match Canada vs. Costa Rica followed by the clash between Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago.
