Guadalajara, Mexico, August 30, 2009 - Mexican
selection player Ivan Contreras was recognized
as the most valuable player (MVP) in the NORCECA
Men’s Volleyball Group I Play-offs, a
qualifying tournament for the 2010 Italy World
Championship, which came to a closing today at
the Pan American Volleyball Stadium.
Alongside with the Mexican warrior, who
accumulated 36 points in all three matches, the
members of Canada’s winning team who were
recognized were Adam Simac in blocking, Daniel
Lewis in defense, Dustin Schneider in passing
and Fred Winters in reception.
In addition, the two Dominicans players who had
the privilege of being acknowledge were Elvis
Daverson Contreras in scoring, attack and
service as well as Alfonso Canario as best
libero.
In this tournament, with Canada as the winner,
Mexico finished second (2-1), followed by the
Dominican team (1-2) and lastly, the team from
Panama (0-3).
With the passes obtained by Canada and Mexico,
all five tickets awarded by the North, Central
America and Caribbean Volleyball Association
have been won as previous ones were handed to
the United States, Cuba, and Puerto Rico.
