Mexico blanked Trinidad & Tobago
MONTERREY, Mexico, December 17, 2007.-
Host Mexico blanked Trinidad & Tobago 25-12, 25-14, 25-15, in the
nightcap of the inaugural day at the Norceca Women’s Olympic
Qualification Tournament.
Martha Revuelta and Bibi Candelas led Mexico with 12 and 11 points
respectively and Krystle Esdelle had 12 for Trinidad & Tobago.
“I am very happy because we maintained the rhythm during most of
the match,” said Macario Gonzalez, the Mexican coach. “Our
mid-term goal is to insert us in the same group of Canada and
Puerto Rico and then to beat those teams.”
“Our team has broken the frontier of the Caribbean to join the
best teams in the zone but this is a different level and we have
to lose a lot of games before we start to think about winning,”
explained Francisco Cruz, the coach of Trinidad & Tobago.
The spikes and serves of Martha Revuelta carried Mexico to the
victory in the lopsided first set when Trinidad & Tobago showed
good athletic qualities but lacked game control.
The second set was again dominated by the Mexican side with
Revuelta and Bibi Candelas supplying the power. It was more of the
same in the third set as Mexico cruised to the victory in straight
sets.
“We played good as a team and the result was good but we still can
improve and I expect to play a little bit harder against Dominican
Republic in our next match,” said Migdalel Ruiz, the captain of
Mexico.
“We battled hard but we didn’t play as we trained,” said Carlin
Williams, the captain of Trinidad & Tobago. “I am sure that we can
play better than tonight.”
