Dominican Republic stopped Puerto Rican streak

JUAN, Puerto Rico, July 3, 2006.-
Dominican Republic stopped Puerto Rico in straight sets and
qualified in second place of Pool A at the Women’s Pan American Cup.
The Dominicans will meet Peru in the quarterfinals after their win
by score of 25-19, 29-27, 25-20. Puerto Rico will face USA. Brazil,
Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico all finished with 4-1 records and
the positions were determined by the won and lost sets percentages.
Brazil finished in first place. Annerys Vargas was the leader of
Dominican Republic with 10 points in a balanced attack. Cosiris
Rodriguez had 9 points, and Cindy Rondon and Milagros Cabral each
had 7. Aury Cruz and Karina Ocasio each scored 15 points for Puerto
Rico. “The match was won at the net,” said Miguel Beato Cruz, the
Dominican coach. “We blocked so well and that prepared our
counterattacks. The block is the start of a good offense and we
executed today.”
