Dominican Republic moved to semi finals and Grand Prix

JUAN, Puerto Rico, July 5, 2006.-
The
Dominican Republic advanced to the semi finals of the Women’s Pan
American Cup with a victory in straight sets against Peru by score
of 25-21, 25-18, 25-13.
The win also qualified the Dominicans, Brazil and Cuba
to the 2007 World Grand Prix. The Brazilians, winners of Pool A,
earned the ticket with the elimination of Peru, the other South
American with a chance to qualify for the annual FIVB event. Annerys
Vargas led the Dominicans with 12 points, including five blocks, and
Milagros Cabral had 10. Cindy Rondon added 9 and Cosiris Rodriguez
and Nurys Arias each had 8. “The reception was the key for us
today,” said Miguel Beato Cruz, the Dominican coach. “We improved
that part of our game and allowed us to set the attack very well.”
“We reached the first goal of qualifying for the Grand Prix and now
we will prepare for Cuba tomorrow,” added Cruz.
