Brazil qualified to semi finals at home
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, July 15, 2007.- Brazil qualified to the
semi finals of the women’s volleyball tournament with a 3-0
victory over Dominican Republic in Pool A. After a tough first set
that ended 28-26, the Brazilians easily won the next two 25-16 y
25-15.
The Dominican team suffered a tough loss when stellar Milagros
Cabral sustained an injury to his right ankle. She is likely to
play on Monday night against Peru in battle for a semi final
berth, said Victor Figueroa, the team doctor.
After the first set, the Brazilians dominated with great defense
on the floor and at the net. Tonight they play against Mexico
looking to finish at the top of their pool.
Paula Pequeño led Brazil with 15 points, Walewska Oliveira had 11
and Fabiana Claudino and Welissa Gonzalez each added 9. The best
Doinican was Bethania de la Cruz with 15 points and Cindy Rondon
added 11.
