RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, July 16, 2006.- Cuba qualified atop of
Pool B by finishing USA 3-0 in a match of the women’s volleyball
tournament of the Pan American Games. The Cubans won 25-16, 25-23
y 25-15 in just 58 minutes and had a perfect record in three

Cuba used its whole arsenal led by Rosir Calderon who hammered
thunderous spikes over the defense at the net.
“Our tactic worked very well and we didn’t allow them to play.
They are better than that, but today we could neutralize them,”
said Antonio Perdomo, the Cuban coach.
Calderon, Yumilka Ruiz and Yanelys Santos each had 12 points for
Cuba and Zoila Barrios and Nancy Carrillo added 11 and 9
respectively. Foluke Akinradewo led USA with 10 points and Tayyiba
