SALTILLO, Coahuila, July 23, 2008.- Puerto Rico got its second victory beating Trinidad & Tobago in consecutive sets (25-11, 25-13 y 25-15) in action of the NORCECA Women’s Junior Tournament.

Leading the Puerto Rican offense was Janeliss Torres with 14 points and captain Stephanie Enright added 11, while for the Trinidadians no one scored more tha 5 tallies.

Luis “Papo” García, coach of Puerto Rico: “Trinidad & Tobago has improved its level in the recent years and you have to respect them because they keep working, the talent over there is tremendous for the future if it is well prepared.”

“We don’t have tall players, but I think they dominate the fundaments and the technical aspects so we did not need the strength for this match knowing that the Trinidadians don’t have a great blocking.”

“The match of tomorrow against Cuba should be very interesting, we have defeated them in the previous three tournaments held in Puerto Rico, Canada and Monterrey, but always with a lot of work, they have strong teams and very tall, and this one is similar to the others.”

“If we execute the fundaments of the game should be a very leveled game, they with more height and strength and we with better control of the serve, reception and defense, in general control of the ball. The Cubans are better blockers and ours serve better and are better in strategy.”

“We have to minimize their strength, no letting to affect us, but we respect that team because we recognize the caliber of Cuban volleyball. It is going to be a good game.”

Nicholson Drakes, coach of Trinidad & Tobago: “Congratulations to the Puerto Ricans for being a great team, we must admit that we failed in the reception and serve, and we hope to improve our game.”

Stephanie Enright, captain of Puerto Rico: “The Trinidadians have developed and block a lot, we attacked off their hands looking to sneak the ball. We keep battling and playing having fun, as we always do.”

Sinead Jack, captain of Trinidad & Tobago: “Once again we had problems of communication, even the fact we improved in the second set, but we must admit the Puerto Ricans are better, with more level, we have to continue working and perhaps some day to be at their level.”
