Mexico’s men display power and finesse

MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 24, 2010 – Mexico defeated Trinidad & Tobago in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) in Pool B first day of the men’s volleyball tournament at the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games. The winners took advantage of 29 unforced errors by the opponent and had a blocking margin of 12-4.

Ivan Contreras topped Mexico with 12 points and Jose Martell and Tomas Aguilera each recorded 8 points with Martell registering 4 blocks. Trinidadian Nolan Tash compiled a match-high 15 points.

“We still need to fine-tune some points but I think we will be ready for our Monday’s match against Puerto Rico,” Contreras said.

“It was a decent match for us to start and I hope we can improve from today on,” Tash said. “We made some errors here and there with our passing.”
