Mexico’s men display power and finesse
MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 24, 2010 – Mexico defeated Trinidad
& Tobago in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) in Pool B first
day of the men’s volleyball tournament at the XXI Central
American and Caribbean Games. The winners took advantage of 29
unforced errors by the opponent and had a blocking margin of
12-4.
Ivan Contreras topped Mexico with 12 points and Jose Martell and
Tomas Aguilera each recorded 8 points with Martell registering 4
blocks. Trinidadian Nolan Tash compiled a match-high 15 points.
“We still need to fine-tune some points but I think we will be
ready for our Monday’s match against Puerto Rico,” Contreras
said.
“It was a decent match for us to start and I hope we can improve
from today on,” Tash said. “We made some errors here and there
with our passing.”
