SAN SALVADOR, July 3, 2008.- USA completed
the four semi finalists by defeating
Guatemala in straight sets 25-22, 25-12,
25-23 in the quarterfinals phase of the
U-21 Norceca Men’s Continental
Championship.
After a well fought first set that saw
teams tied up at 17-all, the Americans
finally imponed their better power, size
and better technique.
In the third set, once again the
Guatemalans showed their resilience and
were one point ahead at the second pause,
becoming the surprise team of the
competition.
“Credit to them, they placed very well,
but we could react at the important
moments,” said coach Shawn Patchell.
He made reference to the fatigue of his
players who had to play almost three
matches in less than 24 hours, “but we are
prepared to give some good matches the
rest of the tournament.”
The Americans played in the morning a
match that was not completed the day
before qualifying to the next round.
The best scorers for the winners were
Joseph Sunder with 16 points and Tri Boume
and Tyles Jaynes with 9 apiece.
Moisés Reyes and Jeyson Nery each had 8
points for Guatemala. |
