TIJUANA, Baja California, June 1, 2008.- Brazil
remained as the only unbeaten team in Pool B of
the Women’s Pan American Cup after defeating
Puerto Rico in straight sets by score of 25-20,
25-14, 25-14.
The Brazilians relied on a good control of their
blocking with 13 positives –five by Adenizia Da
Silva- and a great performance by the setter
Danielle Lins Rodrigues and the libero Camila
Brait.
Brazil had four players in double figures with
Juliana de Castro leading the way with 15. Regiane
Bidias, Natalia Pereira and Da Silva chipped in
12,11 and 10 respectively. Karina Ocasio was the
best Puerto Rican with 10.
Brazil has now a 3-0 win-loss record, while Puerto
Rico is 2-1.
Juan Carlos Núñez, the Puerto Rican coach: "Brazil
played very well tactically attacking our weak
points. We did not serve well and they took plenty
advantage of that. Now we have to play against
Canada and Venezuela, and need to go strong
against them.”
Luizomar Moura, the Brazilian coach: "Our team is
living a game at a time, day by day. We only had a
week for training and we have been improving with
the competition.
Puerto Rico has great attackers like Aurea Cruz
and Karina Ocasio, but we established our blocking
and served well.” |
