WINNIPEG, Canada, June 4, 2008.- The third day of
the Men’s Pan American Cup started with a
thrilling match. Trinidad & Tobago played hard and
showed Puerto Rico how serious they were about
this tournament. After 5 exciting sets, Puerto
Rico declared victory. Set scores were 25-20,
21-25, 25-22, 14-25, 13-15.
Both teams kept exchanging the sets victory until
the final moment. Puerto Rico finally took the
lead in the fifth set and played strong until the
end. It was a great match for both teams.
Nolan Tash of Trinidad & Tobago cumulated a total
of 25 points. Mark Daly and Sean Morrison
respectively got 14 and 12 points. On the Puerto
Rico side, Ulises Maldonado earned 20 points. His
teammate Sequiel Sanchez, the youngest player of
Puerto Rico (18 years old), got an impressive 18
points and Angel Ruiz got 17 points.
Julio Acevedo, captain of Puerto Rico commented
the game: “It was a great game. Trinidad & Tobago
keeps getting better and better. Their coach is
doing an amazing job. On our side, our coach made
all the right calls. We went through ups and downs
but he directed us back on the right track every
time.”
Trinidad & Tobago coach, Augusto Sabbatini,
declared: “I am very happy about this game and
proud of my team. My guys are strong and they keep
fighting. We lost today but tomorrow is another
day. ” |
