MEXICALI, Baja California, June 6, 2008.- Costa
Rica defeated Mexico 31-29, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23 in
the match for the ninth position of the Women’s
Pan American Cup.
The power of Verania Willis (19) along with Karen
Cope (17) and Angela Willis (17) was the
difference in this match. Mexican Martha Revuelta
led all the scorers with 23 points but couldn’t
avoid the loss of her side. Zaira Orellana and
Carolina Carranza each added 12 tallies for
Mexico.
“We tried our best but could not come with the
victory but I hope we can come back next year and
do a better job,” said Revuelta. “We had a lot of
up and downs.”
“After the loss to Mexico in the preliminary
round, it is good to go back home with a victory,”
said Verania Willis. “They served good for moments
and it allowed them to battle with us. At the end
our strength in the attack was the key.” |
