MEXICALI, Baja California, June 7, 2008.-
Argentina won the bronze medal of the Women’s Pan
American Cup by defeating Puerto Rico 3-1 (26-24,
25-18, 16-25, 25-18).
Three players –Yamila Nizetich, Georgina Klug and
Georgina Pinedo- contributed 12 points to the
Argentinean triumph. Ileana Leyendeker added 9
including five blocks. Sarai Alvarez led Puerto
Rico with 14 and Shanon Torregrosa and Aury Cruz
each had 11 tallies.
“To be in the podium is something historic. We
tried our best all the time and the credit is for
the group,” said libero Marianela Robinet.
“It is a great feeling,” said setter Sabrina Segui.
“We have been improving every year and I am amazed
with what we have accomplished.”
“The support of the fans was amazing,” said Klug.
“We felt the chants were increasing with every
match and today we were very motivated by the
public.”
“We don’t have a star player but twelve players
who play hard and respect the game plan. I am
elated with this third place,” said Horacio Bastit,
the coach of Argentina. |
