Puerto Rico keeps playing impressive
COLIMA, Mexico, June 23, 2007.- Puerto Rico continued playing
outstanding volleyball and dispatched Peru in straight sets 25-20,
25-16, 25-21 improving its record to 2-1 in Pool B of the Women’s
Pan American Cup.
The strong blocking was the key for the Puerto Ricans in their
victory over the Peruvians in 68 minutes.
The siblings Aury and Eva Cruz paced the scoring with 15 and 12
points respectively while Karina Ocasio added 8 including four
blocks. Jessenia Uceda was the only player from Peru in double
digits with 10 points.
“We served much better today and for the first time in three
matches we could block some balls,” said Juan Carlos Nunez, the
Puerto Rican coach. “It was also very good to see my players come
back focused after the triumph over Cuba yesterday.”
“Peru is a team in a building process so there is still a lot of
confusion in the court,” said Coach Enio Figueiredo.
“We have to keep working hard.”
