Mexico defeated Canada in five sets
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 4, 2007.-
Mexico began its participation in the Second Men’s Pan American
Cup with a triumph over Canada in five sets by scores of 19-25,
25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 16-14.
Lefty Jose Martell paced the Mexican attack with 20 points and
Gustavo Meyer added 17 tallies. Other Mexicans in double digits
were Juan Garcia and Irving Bricio with 12 and 10 respectively.
Adam Kaminsky and Kris Brand carried the load of the Canadian
offense with 27 and 21 points and Toontje Van Lankvelt had 14.
“I am very happy with this victory because the guys responded in
the key moments when Canada was pressing a little bit,” said
Carlos Novoa, the Mexican coach.
“Yesterday we made general errors and today we committed specific
errors, but this is a very young talented team and we will
continue working hard during the tournament,” said Chris Green,
the Canadian coach.
