CHIAPAS, México, June 16, 2009.- United States
took advantage of the service errors by
Dominican Republic in key moments and claimed
its first victory in second day action of the
Fourth Men’s Pan American Cup. The score was
31-29, 25-20, 25-19.
The Dominicans failed their services three
consecutive times at set-point in the opening
frame. Then they had the same problem in the
second set. The Americans took advantage of
those mistakes and they were led by the good
control of setter Tyler Hildebrand who created
situations with his quick plays.
“This game is a good start for us. It is our
first commitment in 2009 and we could see that
the long hours of work are paying off,” said
Hildebrand, the captain of United States team.
“We have to adjust some things, but now in the
crossed matches it will be against teams we can
battle better. Personally, I think this
competition is really starting for us”, said
Jacinto Campeachano, the Dominican coach.
Maxwell Holt was the best of Americans with 12
points, Robert Tarr and Dean Bittner both
produced 10 points.
José Cáceres and Víctor Batista had nine points
apiece. |
