CHIAPAS,
México, June 18, 2009.- Dominican Republic
completed the group of four semi finalists by
defeating hosts Mexico in the last match of the
quarter finals round of the Fourth Men’s Pan
American Cup. The score was 25-21, 25-19, 25-23.
“I think
today we did what we didn’t in the first two
matches. I am very content with the victory
because we worked for it. We need to maintain
this rhythm because our goal is to go for the
highest position in this cup,” said Victor
Batista, the captain of Dominican Republic.
Batista and
José Cáceres were the best offensive players in
the Dominican squad with 13 points apiece. Elnis
Palomino contributed eight points.
Meanwhile,
Ignacio Ramirez, the captain of Mexico
considered his team got the playing rhythm too
late. “We had a slow start plus our attack
failed in the crucial moments. They had a great
game and their counter-attacks and services were
consistent the whole night.”
For México,
David Alba and Irving Bricio recorded 10 points
apiece.
