CHIAPAS, México, June 19, 2009.- Canada defeated
Puerto Rico 3-1 in the second semi final match
of the IV Pan American Cup and advanced to the
final contest against United States. Both
national teams booked tickets to the 2010
America’s Cup. These teams repeat the final of
2008 Cup won by the Americans.
The score of the match was 25-18, 24-26, 25-21,
27-25. The contest was one well fought since the
start with both teams trading the lead, but the
effectiveness was onm the Canadian side in the
key moments.
Gavin Schmitt led Canada with 27 points and
Toontje Van Lankvelt added 12. For Puerto Rico
Victor Bird scored 18 points, Ivan Perez had 15
and Sequiel Sanchez and Jonathan King
contributed 12 and 11 respectively.
“We could work out the game as we planned, the
service functioned well and the blocking was
there to create problems to their game,” said
Dustin Addison, the captain of Canada.
Fernando Morales, the captain of Puerto Rico,
agreed with the Canadian. “They scouted us very
well and made us to fail on things we have not
before. Their service was consistent and gave
them strength in the blocking. Now we have to
fight tomorrow and go for the other vacancy to
the America’s Cup. |
