CHIAPAS, Mexico, June 19, 2009.- Defending
champions United States maintained their rhythm
and reached the final of the Pan American Cup
after defeating Dominican Republic in straight
sets by score of 25-21, 25-23, 25-14.
United States dominated the first set with
effective blocking and in the second the
Dominican squad was ahead at 23-20, but several
blocks by USA combined with Dominican’s errors
finished the set.
“Our problems are of mentality more than any
other thing. We play well against some teams,
but when we face teams like United States or
Canada is not the case, so I think is a
mentality matter,” said Jacinto Campechano, the
Dominican coach.
Tyler Hidelbrand, the USA captain hopes his team
can keep the good rhythm in for the final game.
“We have to maintain the momentum whoever is the
rival”, he said.
Dean Bittner, Robert Tarr y Maxwell Holt were
the best USA scorers with 14, 13 and 11 points
respectively. José Cáceres had 11 points for the
Dominicans. |
