CHIAPAS, Mexico, June 20,
2009.- In another spectacular match of five
sets, the United States team revalidated its
title as champions of the Fourth Men’s Pan
American Cup with a victory over Canada.
The Americans
had also won the last edition of the event by
defeating the Canadians. The score was 32-30,
16-25, 24-26, 25-17, 15-12.
The Canadians
had the lead in the match 2-1 but the experience
of the Americans was the key in the two
following sets do take the win.
“I think that the team didn’t
desperate after being down 2-1. We could adjust
our quick game and the blocking at the corners.
We are very happy with this victory in the start
of the year for our program,” said Richard
McLaughlin, the coach of USA.
The Canadian
team dominated the blocking 17-8 but most of
them were in the first three sets.
“A little frustrated with the
final result, but the fast pace of their setter
was crucial for the victory of United States and
also their experience prevailed in the key
moments,” said George Laplante, the coach of
Canada.
Dean Bittner led USA with 26
points and Robert Tarr (14), Nathan Meerstein
(11) and Maxwell Holt (10) were also in
