Rica defeats Guatemala for fifth place
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, May 2, 2010 – Costa
Rica defeated Guatemala and won the duel between
Central American rivals and the fifth place at
NORCECA Girls’ Youth Volleyball Championship.
The scores were 25-18, 25-16, 25-11 and the
winners played with better coordination and
effectiveness.
Gabriela Arias and Tracy Fernandez led Costa
Rica with 16 and 12 points respectively. The
best for the home team were Evelin Sanchez and
Ada Villalobos with 6 points apiece.
“We played together, never quit and played to
get the best result,” said Costa Rican
Fernandez.
Coach Alberto Blanco added: “We almost didn’t
make any errors and the concentration was a
key.”
Meanwhile, Guatemala’s coach Julio Dominguez
said “the attack failed and the psychological
factor worked against us.”
