Mexico
finishes seventh in Pan Am Cup
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, May 28, 2010 – Mexico
scored a 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-15, 25-20)
victory over Colombia on Friday and finished in
seventh place of the Men’s Volleyball Pan
American Cup.
Ivan Contreras led Mexico with 16 points and
Pedro Rangel and Jesus Rangel each compiled 9
points. Colombians Humberto Machacon (15),
Ronald Jimenez (14), Jefferson Perlaza (11) and
Carlos Alomia (10) scored in double figures for
the defeated side.
“Finishing a competition with a victory is
always good,” Mexican Coach Jorge Azair said.
“After two days off it we had some difficulties
to get things going but once we caught the
rhythm we stabilized our serve and reception and
got the win.”
“We came here with junior players around three
veterans and all they need is to play more,”
Azair added. “I think for future NORCECA
tournaments the competition format needs to be
revised because we only played three matches.”
Horacio Dileo, the Argentinean coaching
Colombia, said: “I was not the best tournament
in terms of results but it was a good one to
evaluate our program and the work that needs to
be done in Colombia.”
