TIJUANA, Baja California, May 30, 2008.-
Puerto Rico took advantage of its blocking and
offense to dominate Peru 3-0 in the second match
of Pool B. The score was 25-20, 25-17, 25-21.
The Puerto Ricans benefited from the Peruvian’s
errors in their reception to build a comfortable
lead in the first set. The South Americans started
dominating the first part of the second set only
to see their rivals to overcome the deficit with
the effective attacks of Aury Cruz and Karina
Ocasio.
The third set was dominated by the Puerto Ricans
but their mistakes allowed Peru to keep it alive.
At the end the result was in favour of Puerto
Rico.
Ocasio led Puerto Rico with 16 points and Cruz
added 10. Jessenia Uceda led Peru with 7 points.
“We are very glad with this result because we
wanted to start with a win,” said Juan Carlos
Nunez, the coach of Puerto Rico. “But I have to
admit that my team made many errors.”
Francisco dos Santos, the coach of Peru, said: “My
team worked hard but the lack of preparation
affected the players. We came here without any
games of preparation and also we have many young
players without experience.” |
