GUATEMALA, October 22, 2009 – The President of
FIVB was declared “Ambassador of Peace” by the
Ministry of Culture and Sport of Guatemala
during a ceremony that took place on Wednesday
in the National Palace of the country.
“I receive this honor with humble,” said Mr.
Jizhong Wei. “And I make the commitment of
carrying a message of peace throughout the world
and through sport, specifically volleyball and
beach volleyball.”
“Volleyball is a sport where physical contact
doesn’t exist,” he added, “so it is not a sport
of violence, it is a sport of peace.”
Wei was invited to participate in the daily
ritual ceremony of the deposit of the white
flower in the Peace Monument located in the
patio of the palace which commemorates the end
of the internal war that affected the country
and ended in December of 1996 with the peace
agreemend after more than 30 years of division.
The ceremony in which the FIVB President
received a certificate of recognition took place
at the end of his visit to the Ministry of
Sports accompanied by Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz,
First Executive Vice President of FIVB, Mrs.
Marta Centeno de Sajche, FIVB Executive Vice
President and Mr. Enrique Santis, President of
the National Federation of Guatemala.
