Brazil won the gold medal and USA the silver
TOKYO,
Japan, November 28, 2005.- Brazil's men followed the women by
winning the 2005 World Grand Champions Cup on Sunday. A week after
the women clinched the inter-continental crown in Nagoya, the men
completed a double by beating African champions Egypt 3-0 (25-21,
25-20, 25-21) in the second match on the last day of play at Tokyo
Metropolitan Gymnasium.
USA beat China in straight sets in the first game of the day taking
the silver medal.
The Norceca champions and world No. 5 won 25-16,
25-21, 25-18 against the wild card entry to finish their campaign
with a 4-1 win-loss record. China, ranked 18th, dropped to 0-5, but
lost three of those in five sets.Italy
beat Japan 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-20) in the last match of the event.
The winner of this contest between two teams with a 2-2 win-loss
record would collect the bronze medal, and the Azzurri took it to
add to their gold from the inaugural inter-continental championship
in 1993.
