2006.- The Dominican Republic
defeated Grupo Murcia 2002 in
straight sets (26-24, 25-19,
25-20), taking the first place
at the First Summer
International Trophy Ciudad de
Abanilla.
The Dominicans, who were coming
from finishing in the eighth
position at the FIVB World Grand
Prix relied on its heavy
artillery that included Cosiris
Rodriguez, Evelyn Carrera and
Annerys Vargas, the latest
player signed by Evedasto
Lifante for Grupo Murcia 2002.
Grupo 2002 was ahead 16-10 at
the second technical time out of
the first set and still led
21-17 late in the period but at
the end the Dominicans turned
out the score. The Spaniard team
kept attempting for the next two
sets but could not avoid the
loss.
The day before, Grupo Murcia
defeated Puerto Rico 3-1 (27-29,
25-21, 25-22, 25-21) with
American Kim Willoughby and
Spaniard Amaranta Fernandez
leading the attack with 20 and
16 points respectively. |
