LIMA, Peru, September 11, 2009 – Dominican
Republic defeated USA in straight sets 25-20,
25-19, 25-23 in Friday’s first match of II Final
Four Women’s Volleyball Cup.Both teams will meet
again on Saturday in the semi finals.
The Dominicans, who had the advantage 9-5 in
blocks and 5-1 in aces, finished the preliminary
round with 2-1 record while the Americans had a
1-2 mark.
Bethania de la Cruz paced the winners’ offense
with 17 points and Milagros Cabral tallied 11.
Prisilla Rivera added 9 points and rookie
Estefany Arias contributed 7. The best American
was Cynthia Barboza with 15 points and Angela
Pressey added 11.
“We had a good match and all of us showed a good
level,” said Cabral. “But the important match
will be tomorrow’s, because if we lose it will
be like doing nothing along the tournament.”
“They played very well and dominated in
everything,” said Nancy Metcalf, the USA captain.
“The only thing for us now is to prepare for
tomorrow’s match.”
