LIMA, Peru. September 13, 2009 – Dominican
Republic scored a 25-17, 25-21, 27-25 victory
over Peru claiming the bronze medal at the II
Final Four Women’s Volleyball Cup.
The Dominicans had a comfortable 24-21 lead in
the third set but their reception mistakes gave
new life to Peru. One spike by Prisilla Rivera
followed by a Peruvian error decided the set and
the match.
Rivera led Dominican Republic with 14 points and
Lisvel Eve contributed 12, including six blocks.
Altagracia Mambru chipped in nine points.
Peruvians Carla Rueda and Jessenia Uceda charted
9 points apiece.
“We are satisfied with a podium position, even
though our goal was to be in the final match,
but we were not lucky enough,” said Milagros
Cabral, the captain of Dominican Republic. “We
could use many young players today to test them.
Five starting players are out with injuries so
we are working hard with our youngsters.”
“This tournament made it clear the areas where
we need to work for the World Championship,”
said Leyla Chihuan, the captain of Peru. “Now is
up to ourselves to get a good preparation and
work harder.”
