TIJUANA, Baja California, September 25, 2009 –
Mexicans Mayra Garcia and Bibiana Candelas in
the women’s side and Juan Virgen and Aldo
Miramontes in the men’s bracket lead the local
teams participating in the Baja California Beach
Volleyball tournament, the fifth stop of the
2009 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit.
Mexico will be represented by four pairs in each
gender during the competition to be staged in
the beach volleyball venue at Centro de Alto
Rendimiento (CAR) in Tijuana.
Mr. Saul Castro Verdugo, general director of the
Sports and Physical Education Institute,
pronounced the welcome words to all the
participants during the technical meeting held
on Thursday.
The other Mexican women teams taking part are
Diana Estrada-Martha Revueltas, Yesica Brambila-Diana
Ramirez and Alin Acero-Rosalinda Heredia.
First ranked USA is represented by Briana Hinga
and Laura Ratto, while Ingrid Morales and
Natalia Alfaro will play for number 2 Costa
Rica. The eight-team bracket is completed by
Cuba’s Ion Canet and Milagros Valle and Nancy
Joseph and Elki Phillip of Trinidad & Tobago.
The three other Mexican men teams are Lombardo
and Ulises Ontiveros, Ramon Meza and Carlos
Ayala and Oscar Castillo and Juan Carlos
Almeranza.
Fourteen pairs will compete in the men’s
tournament with first ranked Puerto Ricans
Orlando Irizarry and Roberto Rodriguez leading
the pack.
The other participants are:
