Puerto Rico blanked Peru and
finished fifth

JUAN, Puerto Rico, July 6, 2006.-
Puerto Rico beat Peru 3-0 and finished in fifth place at the Women’s
Pan American Cup, the same position of the previous edition. The
score was 25-14, 25-22, 25-22 and Karina Ocasio and Aury Cruz, with
15 and 12 points respectively, were the leading scorers for Puerto
Rico. Patricia Soto had 10 points for Peru.Juan Carlos Nunez, the
Puerto Rican coach,considered the fifth place an improvement from
last year.“This has been the most competitive Pan American Cup and
we battled against some big teams,” said Nunez. “It is good to end
our participation with a victory and now we are set to prepare the
team for the Central American and Caribbean Games in Cartagena.”
Carlos Aparicio, the Peruvian coach, said: “The balance of our
participation has been a positive one. You can not ask for more to a
team that is just starting to compete internationally.”
