Bahamas suffered its third loss

Former two-times Caribbean Volleyball queens, the Bahamas continued their wretched form when the 10th edition of the CVC continued on Day Three at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.

The 1992 and 1995 champions who also appeared in the ‘93, ’94 and ’98 finals were handed their third loss in three days by a pumped up Guadeloupe, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19.  Sisters Amendine and Benedicte Mauricette once again spearheaded the offence to pilot Guadeloupe to victory.

The Bahamas men enjoyed better luck in taking a five setter from St. Lucia, 25-19, 20-25, 27-25, 21-25, 15-13.  After coming from two sets down to then reach the fifth set and hold an, 8-6, lead in the decisive set, St. Lucia failed to pull off the upset.

The Bahamas’ women’s fortune is not expected to change soon as they will meet the five-times queens, Barbados in the feature game tonight at eight.  Another former queen, Trinidad & Tobago will be hoping to turn around their situation when they play Guadeloupe at six.

T&T who had won the cup in 1996 and were the losing finalists in 2002 lost their first two games in straight sets to Jamaica and then the Bajans.  At this half way stage T&T need to accumulate some wins to reach the final four.  On the other hand, another victory would propel newcomers Guadeloupe into the semis.

Day Four’s action begins at ten with T&T men taking on the Cayman Islands in Group B.  St. Lucia men will clash with Guadeloupe in a Group A clash at noon.  Martinique women play the upbeat Jamaicans at two.

T&T women will meet Guadeloupe at six before queens Barbados entertain the floundering Bahamas.
