LAUSANNE,
December 9, 2005 – The FIVB can
confirm details of the huge support
confirmed by its Confederations for
the re-election of President Dr
Rubén Acosta Hernandez for a further
four-year term (2006-2010) at the
FIVB World Congress in October 2006.
Four of the five Confederations that
regroup the FIVB’s 218 national
federations into continental
organisations have already declared
their unanimous support for the
re-election of Dr Acosta, with a
similar expression of support from
the remaining Confederation, the
Confédération Européenne de
Volleyball, expected in the near
future.
The first Confederation to confirm
its support was the Asian Volleyball
Confederation (AVC) following its
Congress in September. Immediately
after the Congress, newly re-elected
AVC President Jizhong Wei sent a
personal letter to FIVB President
Acosta confirming the AVC’s
unanimous support for the latter’s
re-election.
The African Volleyball Confederation
(CAVB) concurred following its
Congress in October, whose delegates
unanimously considered Dr Rubén
Acosta as their only candidate for
the Presidency in 2006.
An expression of unanimous support
was also received from the North,
Central American and Caribbean
Volleyball Confederation. NORCECA
President Cristobal Marte said “I’m
very pleased with this kind of
support in favour of Dr Acosta.
Volleyball as a sport has developed
into one of the most important
disciplines under his leadership and
we are very proud of that because he
was the founder of our
Confederation.”
The most recent confirmation of
support came from the 12 national
federations that form the South
American Confederation. The
Executive Committee of CSV, during
their extraordinary assembly held on
December 2, ratified their support
of the enormous work undertaken by
President Acosta as head of the
biggest international sports
organization.
Many national Volleyball federations
are also expressing their individual
support, thanking the FIVB President
for the efforts made over so many
years to bring Volleyball to the
forefront of the sports world. The
federations of Venezuela, Brazil,
Argentina, Japan, China, the
Dominican Republic and Russia have
all sent messages of solidarity to
the FIVB and in particular to
President Acosta for his
restructuring of the headquarters in
Lausanne.
