December
30,2004,-The Dominican Christmas Women’s
Volleyball Tournament with the participation
of eleven teams was a complete success and
culminated with a big celebration at the
training center facilities of the National
Program in
Santo Domingo.
The annual event was directed by Ricardo
Arias with the coordination of Marcelo
Richiez, two
long-time distinguished instructors of the
country.
The tournament involved teams of several
levels that included the Seniors A and B
squads, Junior, Youth and Initiation.
“It gives our athletes the chance to get
more used to compete,” said Arias, the
founder of Club Mirador,
the most successful franchise in women’s
volleyball in the Dominican. “They have been
training for months and this part of the
year was the right one to evaluate how they
have progressed.”
“We also had the chance to start preparing
technical personnel for the local
tournaments with a group of girls working as
scorers and referees,” added Arias.
Cuban
coaches Jorge Garbey
and Francisco Cruz acted as supervisors and
the coaches of the squads were Hector
Romero, Wilson Sanchez, Christian Cruz,
Victor Sepulveda, Jonas Tyson,
Francia Jackson,
Paola Nick, Remigio
Valdez, Mayo Sibilia
and Isaury
Restituyo.
“It was a wonderful experience and the girls
enjoyed the opportunity,” said Arias. “We
have plenty talent for the future national
teams in the different categories and more
and more girls are interested in starting
volleyball careers.” |
