DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 28, 2005.-
The Dominican Republic’s aspirations for the Women’s U-20 World
Championship are to finish among the top six teams of the event to
be staged in two cities of Turkey next July.
The announcement was
made by Mr. Cristobal
Marte, President of the Women’s
Development Program of the Dominican Volleyball Federation.
The
Dominicans will play in Pool B in the city of Istanbul with the
representatives of Puerto Rico, Italy, Russia, Egypt and China while
in Pool A in Ankara will compete USA,
Brazil,
Croacia,
Serbia & Montenegro and host Turkey.
“The group has been training
without rest and with the goal of shining at international
competitions and they represent the new breed of our women’s
volleyball,” said Mr. Marte. The core of
the team consist of promising players as
Bethania de la Cruz, Cindy Rondon,
Dahiana Burgos,
Sidarka Nunez, Karla Echenique,
Gina Mambru, Ana Esther Lara and twins
Gina and Ginette
Selmo.
