Griffith announce new era for Volleyball in Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, March 30, 2005.- The Barbados Volleyball Association has appointed local expert Kenmore Bynoe to the position of Manager of Volleyball Operations with a view of carrying the sport to the next level of excellence.

In 2004 Barbados hosted another successful Caribbean Volleyball Championship winning the men's title for the ninth time and the women's crown for the fifth time.  The BVA also won the National Sports Council's Association of the Year Award for the fourth time. 

President of the BVA John Griffith in disclosing Mr. Bynoe's appointment highlighted that 2005 will be a critical year for Barbados' volleyball with this country hosting first round World Championships Qualifiers for men and women in June. Barbados men will compete later at Norceca in Canada while the women will battle in Trinidad & Tobago.

Barbados women will also make their debut at the Pan Am Cup in the Dominican Republic in June while July will see the Junior boys and girls competing at the Caribbean Volleyball Championships in Aruba. 

"We are optimistic that the Qualifiers in June will be the launch date for the highly
anticipated Barbados' Regional Development Centre by FIVB," Griffith said.  "We are also in the process of acquiring funding for Barbados men's team to enter a programme geared towards winning a medal at the Pan Am Games in 2007."

"To this end it is critical that Barbados install the personnel who will be fully committed to guiding our volleyball to the next level," Griffith added.  Mr. Bynoe's knowledge of the sport is daily sought after by the BVA's executive, the media and the public. 

"The respect which Mr. Bynoe has commanded during the past 20 years throughout the volleyball fraternity makes him the ideal candidate for this position," President Griffith stated. 

Mr. Bynoe who is a graduate of the University of the West Indies and holds a diploma in human resources management from Bimap is the most knowledgeable person in Barbados about local, regional and international volleyball.  Mr. Bynoe has played,coached, officiated and managed volleyball at regional and international levels since 1982.

Former BVA President, Mr. Bynoe has been the manager of the nine-times Caribbean kings since 1996.  He has represented Barbados at regional and international volleyball congresses throughout the Caribbean as well as in Argentina, Atlanta, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Portugal.

The appointed Manager of Volleyball Operations has been considered the 'voice' of local
volleyball since 1984 where he has commentated and reported on local and regional volleyball for the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation.  Mr. Bynoe also writes for the Daily Nation.
